How do we build confidence? I would say through expansion. Don’t worry, what I mean by that is fairly simple! We have to try new things. This doesn’t have to be complicated; we can start with small steps.
The importance is that we need to step out of our comfort zone. We need to stretch a little, risk something new or go as far as the “die zone” in order to have new experiences which will give us more confidence.
Good news though, I have a proven technique! Baby steps!! Let me remind you what that looks like.
Picture a cute, adorable baby with a big smile crawling with confidence on the floor. The baby suddenly discovers the coffee table in front of her. The baby stretches her little pudgy hand in the air and grabs hold of the table. How many times will the baby repeat this until she discovers she can pull herself up and stand?!! Yeah!! Do you see the mom in the background going: yes honey! You did it! Look at you! You are standing! The baby is smiling radiantly!! You get the picture.
What I want you to do when you stretch, or risk something new, or even go as far as the “die zone” is to encourage yourself just like a mom or dad would with a cute, adorable baby.
Better yet, find your favorite picture of yourself and start looking at it for brief moments a few times a day. Place it in a journal and write down how you felt when you took a stretch, risk or went to the “die zone” during the day. Then give yourself a written compliment for how well you did.
I have done this pretty consistent in the past and it has raised my level of confidence.
